Need help with HikeStash? Email support@hikestash.app and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

It helps to include your iPhone model, the app version (Settings › About › Version) and, for a shared hike or list, its link.

Your gear and data

Do I need an account?

No. HikeStash has no sign-up. Your gear, lists and hikes are stored on your iPhone, and we don’t have a copy of them.

How do I back up my gear or move it to a new phone?

In Settings › Your data, tap Backup data and save the .stash file somewhere safe, such as Files or iCloud Drive. On the new phone, install HikeStash and tap Restore backup in the same place. Restoring replaces everything in the app with what’s in the file. Your data is also part of your iPhone’s own iCloud or computer backups.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the gear, lists or hikes in the app, or delete the app to remove everything on your phone. Turn off any public links first (see below), because the app is what removes their copies from our server. If you’ve already deleted the app, email us the link and we’ll remove it.

Can I change units or currency?

Yes. Settings › Region has units (metric or imperial), currency and date format.

Importing gear

How do I import my LighterPack list?

On lighterpack.com, open your list, tap Share and copy the link that looks like https://lighterpack.com/r/abc123. In HikeStash, tap the import button on the Stash tab, or open a list or hike and choose Import gear from its ⋯ menu, then paste the link. You can review the items before they’re added. Gear you already have is matched by name, so it isn’t doubled up.

Some imported items are in Miscellaneous or have no weight

When HikeStash can’t tell an item’s category, it puts it in Miscellaneous. Items with no weight on LighterPack come in without one. You can change either on the Stash tab after importing.

Sharing

How do I share a hike or list?

Open the hike or list, tap ⋯ › Sharing and turn on Public link. Anyone with the link can view the page in a browser without the app. Turn off Show prices to hide what your gear cost. Notes are never shared.

How do I stop sharing?

Turn off Public link on the same page, or delete the hike or list. The page stops working within about a minute.

Reporting a shared page

If you see a shared page that you think breaks our Terms of Use, email us its link.

Strava

How do I connect Strava?

Go to Settings › Connections and tap Connect with Strava. Sign in on Strava’s page and allow HikeStash to view your activities. Then open a hike’s Activities tab to link the activities you recorded on it.

How do I disconnect?

Tap Disconnect in Settings › Connections. This cancels HikeStash’s access and removes your Strava details from your phone. You can also remove HikeStash in Strava’s own settings under My Apps.

Location and maps

Why does HikeStash ask for my location?

Only to show where you are on the Hikes map and to show nearby places first when you search for a hike’s location. Everything else works if you say no, and you can change it any time in the iPhone’s Settings › HikeStash › Location.
